Indroductory Post

Missy Whalen

Hello, welcome to my blog. As you can see my name is Missy Whalen. I'm studying to be an elementary school teacher at Eastern Kentucky University. My overall teaching goal is to be a high school fmd(functional mental disability)teacher.

My passion for children has always existed, I was always more mature than my friends, becoming the "mother" of my friend group. When I learned I wanted to be a special educator I was in middle school. I grew up with a set of twins, I always had class with one or both of them. One boy was in general education classes, but his brother had a mental disability. This twin, I'll call him Joey. It didn't matter how sad I was on any given day, Joey would always cheer me up. Some days, he would be the only person who realized I was upset and tried to make me feel better. I realized that if he could be so kind to me, I wanted to give back to other students who had disabilities. I became his defender in school and was so proud to see him graduate high school. We still keep in touch and he has become employee of the month at his job several times now. I can't wait until the day that I can message him and tell him I'm a teacher.

In my spare time I like to read, mostly mystery novels. I love to watch movies, hang out with friends and family, and bake.

That is me in a nutshell.
